What To Do In Case Of Emergency

Elder people

INFORMING THE ELDER PEOPLE

The elder people should have an individual plan in case of emergency and it is important that they plan ahead, stay in touch with the family and neighbours as well as share the information about any dangerous events with the others.

PLANNING AHEAD

Danger might come unexpectedly and the elder people are in the group of a higher risk. In order to improve their safety the seniors should:

  • Keep the emergency kit, ready to be taken at any time of evacuation, in the house,

  • Know the address and the phone number to the local authorities,

  • Label the equipment, which they might need i.e. wheelchairs, walking sticks,

  • Prepare the list of medications they are taking at the moment as well as the medical equipment such as: pacemaker,

  • Plan the transportation in case of evacuation,

  • Make the medication supplies to avoid the lack of it,

  • Know the phone number of a 24 hour drug store,

  • Put the list of emergency phone numbers by their phone,

  • Keep in the wallet or in the handbag the spare list of the emergency phone numbers as well as the medical information,

  • Prepare the plan and practise the best escape paths from the house.
