Polish-U.S. talks on combating terrorism
Talks on Polish-U.S. cooperation in combating terrorism, EURO 2012 safety and security, crisis management, bioterrorist threats and training of special police units were held in Warsaw at a meeting of the Joint Polish-U.S. Working Group on Combating Terrorism.
The participants to the meeting included Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Interior Adam Rapacki and Deputy Chief of Mission William A. Heidt.
The discussion at the meeting concerned Polish-U.S. cooperation in recent months, including training in border protection issues, exercises for special police units participating in the ATLAS Group with participation of American observers, Polish-Ukrainian workshops on response to bioterrorist threat organized by Americans in Cherkasy in Ukraine, and cooperation in the area of crisis management exercised during the EPIFAKTOR project. The American participants suggested joint exercise and workshops be organized next year.
Also Polish preparations in terms of UEFA EURO 2012 Football Championships were also brought up for discussion. The talks concerned the main points in the National Antiterrorist Programme for the Republic of Poland for the years 2012-2016 drafted by the Interministerial Team for Terrorist Threats. A summary of actions in the area of preventing terrorism taken during the Polish presidency in the Council of the European Union.
Polish-U.S. Working Group on Combating Terrorism was set up in 2005 on the initiative of the then Minister of Interior and Administration and U.S. Ambassador to Poland. It meets once every half a year. The participants in the group include representatives of Polish services and institutions responsible for preventing and combating terrorist threat, and members of staff of the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw.
The meeting of the Polish-U.S, Working Group for Combating Terrorism was held on 20 December 2011 in Warsaw. The next meeting is to take place mid-2012.
