Polish rescuers returned from Haiti
On January 24th, 2010 at about 10 p.m. the group of Polish rescuers landed on the military airport Okęcie in Warsaw. The rescuers had participated during 7 days in the rescue action in Haiti, which was struck by the cataclysm.
The rescuers from the special Urban Search and Rescue group were greeted on the airstrip by Jerzy Miller, the Minister of the Interior and Administration.
The rescuers took off to Haiti on January 15th. During their stay in Haiti the Poles searched through places destroyed by the earthquake and provided medical help to local inhabitants.
The special Urban Search and Rescue group (USAR Poland) is one of 11 special urban search and rescue groups in the world which have a UN certificate. The rescuers had previously taken part in the search for buried people, e.g. after the earthquake in Turkey, Algeria and Pakistan.
