Polish preparations for EURO 2012

Safety of stadiums, friendly management of borders, and efficient courts are only a few of the aspects of the preparations for the provision of security to the 2012 European Football Championship. Participants of the workshops for the so called leaders of areas, i.e. persons responsible for the coordination of actions performed by institutions and services taking part in the event, worked on the schedule for the performance of particular tasks.

All areas of security at the Championship were discussed during the last meeting of the Committee for Safety and Security of the UEFA 2012 European Football Championship. The meeting was chaired by Undersecretary of State at the MIA Adam Rapacki, who referred, among other things, to the comments of UEFA on the adopted Integrated Security Concept, a document describing the preparations of security at the Championship.

The participants of the meeting on 14 October 2010 at the National Police Headquarters included representatives of Ministries of Interior and Administration, Sports and Tourism, National Defence, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Health and Infrastructure. Also representatives of services subordinate to the Ministry of Interior and Administration, General Prosecutor's Office, Committee for Special Services, Internal Security Agency, as well as host cities, six voivodships (including Lubelskie and Podkarpackie Voivodships that border with Ukraine), as well as the companies PL.2012 and EURO 2012 were present at the meeting.

The workshops were organized for 15 leaders of the areas singled out in an EURO 2012 Integrated Security Concept. They will hosted by Tadeusz Zygmunt from the PL.2012 company, the plenipotentiary of the Safety and Security Committee for EURO 2012. Minister Adam Rapacki also shared his experience and advice. The aim of the workshops was to develop principles for cooperation among leaders. He leaders were supposed to indicate institutions they cooperate with on projects and appoint special project teams including representatives of those institutions. The workshops took place on 14 and 15 October 2010 in Warsaw.

The Safety and Security Committee for UEFA 2012 European Championship was established by the Prime Minister in May 2010. The Committee specifies the areas of responsibility of government administration in connection with the provision of security to the tournament. It also monitors the preparations in terms of security at the Championship.
