Safe holidays by the water
Bathe only under the supervision of a lifeguard, do not swim under the influence of alcohol-such advice, and not only, can be found in the guide “Safe Water” (Bezpieczna woda). According to the data of the National Police Headquarters, 52 people drowned during the weekend two weeks ago, with almost 400 fatalities since the beginning of April this year. Below you can find the “Safe water” guideline.
The guide can be helpful for parents, teachers, and tour guides and people at summer camps staying by the water.
Minders at summer camps can print the special guide “Safe Water” and give it to children and teenagers staying at the water. The youngest will also find some guidelines and information on how to bathe in the see or a lake safely. The guide can be used in class or after class activities, as well as summer camps.
The educational campaign is supported by the Water Volunteer Ambulance Service (Wodne Ochotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe), which developed the materials.
The guide contains signs marking the swimming areas and information on when and how to behave at swimming areas, as well as on how to sunbathe safely. There are also guidelines on how to help people who fainted or have been sunburnt.
Children and teenagers can find out how to use water equipment safely, (kayaks, boats, paddle boats). There is also necessary information for anyone interested in acquiring the junior lifeguard certificate at the Water Volunteer Ambulance Service.
The brochure also contains rescue phone numbers that might be useful by the water in case of a dangerous situation.
The initiators of the “Safe Water” campaign are the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Ministry of National Education, as well as Water Volunteer Ambulance Service, National Police Headquarters, Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK) and Polish Tourist Organization.
The informational and educational campaign “Safe Water” is carried out all over Poland. The “Safe Water” campaign” is a part of “Water Tourism Year”, a wider action implemented by the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society in 2010.
