Assistance to victims of trafficking
The National Consulting and Intervention Centre for the Victims of Trafficking offers a 24h helpline for victims or witnesses of trafficking. The Centre offers assistance both to Polish nationals, who for example have been forced to work abroad or foreigners staying in Poland. The advice and consultations are also available to persons who are leaving or planning to leave the country for work.
The Centre provides a wide range of assistance, including medical, psychological, and legal care.
Under the Programme of support and protection of the victims/witnesses of trafficking for foreigners, the Centre helps foreign victims to legalize their stay and organizes their return to their home countries. The employees and volunteers working at the Centre accompany the victims during meetings with the police and prosecutors.
The National Consulting and Intervention Centre for the Victims of Trafficking also runs a shelter for victims that provides safe accommodation and care of specialized personnel. Victims are also given food and clothes.
La Strada Foundation, which manages the Centre provides advice to national and local institutions that work with victims of traffickers.
Not only the victims but also their relatives and people at risk of falling victims to traffickers, organizations and institutions operating in this area, as well as law enforcement bodies and the judiciary may consult the Centre.
Since its establishment in April 2009 until 31 March 2010, the Centre provided support to a total of 287 victims of trafficking by rendering interpretation services, legal consultations, psychological care, providing them with company during meeting with police officers and prosecutors. In 2009 a total of 77 Polish citizens and 116 foreigners received assistance at the Centre.
In 2009 the Centre gave advice to victims and their families through phone and e-mail in 322 cases.

The National Consulting and Intervention Centre for the Victims of Trafficking was established in April 2009. It is financed from the state budget in full on the basis of a commissioned of the Minister of Interior and Administration. The Centre is managed by a non-governmental organization chosen in an open bid. La Strada Foundation against trafficking in human beings and slavery is currently running the Centre. In 2010 the MIA allocated PLN 750 thousand to the operation of the Centre.
