i2010 High Level Group Meeting

The i2010 High Level Group meeting was held today, in Brussels, with the participation of the ministers responsible for communication and information society in each Member State.

The aim of the meeting was to share experiences and ideas with respect to the use of new technologies and stimulation of infrastructural investments in the context of economic crisis. In the unanimous opinion of the participants of the meeting, the development of e-administration and communication infrastructure, and improving qualifications in using new technologies, will stimulate the economy of countries affected by the crisis, increase their competitiveness and improve the situation on local labour markets.

Witold Drożdż, the Undersecretary of State, presented a proposal of the Polish government in the field of promoting Internet access and development of administrative services. The participants of the meeting also learnt about the details of the European Commission proposal concerning the allocation of an additional € 1 billion for broadband infrastructure in rural areas.
