The Ministry of the Interior and Administration divided its preparations for the Polish take over of the EU Presidency into two main areas.
One area of preparations revolved around organizational activities for the Council of the European Union, including organization of expert meetings (home and abroad), staff training in subject matters, purchase of software and hardware to be used for the purposes of Presidency meetings.
The other area of preparations included horizontal activities serving the purposes pursued by institutions involved in the Presidency. Other than ensuring security at Council meetings during Polish Presidency in the Council of the European Union, the Ministry of Interior and Administration coordinates the use of ICT infrastructure and development of the system of exchange of privileged information.
Jerzy Miller, Minister of the Interior and Administration, participated in a Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting in Luxemburg. The meeting was the last to be held during Hungarian Presidency, which comes to an end on 30 June. Poland is going to preside over Council meetings for the next six months.
The topics discussed by Interior Ministers of the EU Member States included common asylum policy, legal migration, accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area, and the future of the Frontex Agency. The Ministers also exchanged their views on the assistance to the Southern Mediterranean Region in view of the crisis.
