Be prepared


What will you need – make a list

The basic articles which you should keep in the house are: water, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, clothing and bed cloths, tools, batteries. Keep them in the house, in the most accessible place, in one container such us: dust bin, plastic container, back pack or bag. Keep the items in the place of convenience and you should also posses a smaller version of these items in your car. The items should be kept in air proof bags. Remember to change the storage water and the food supplies ( put the dates on the containers). Check your supplies and analyse again your needs. You should talk to your doctor or a pharmacist about the medicines, that you have in the storage and update your list of medical supplies.

WATER
Buy a bottled water.
You should have at least 3 litres of water per person a day. Water (with the expiring date) should be stored in a cool, dark place.

FOOD
You should keep 3-5 days food supply for each person. The food should not require the fridge storage, preparation nor cooking. It should not require water (or only a small amount). For example: easy to absorb food cans with meat,  fruits and vegetables, juice, milk and soups  (in cans or packages), spices such as: sugar, pepper and salt, highly energetic food like butter, jelly; small salty crackers, high calorie bars and  other products which contain a lot of sugar, sesame grain, dry fruits, corn flakes, nuts and honey, vitamins, baby food and the products for the people on a special type of diet, cookies, sweets, instant cafe and sweet grain flakes. The products such as rice, pasta, corn, groats, soya beans gathered in large amount can be kept in a storage for a long period of time.

First aid kit
Put together a set of items in case of emergency.
In your first aid kit you should have: plasters in all sizes, gauze pads, allergy tested plasters, sterile gauze, cotton tourniquet in all sizes, scissors, tweezers, safety pins, needles, wet tissues, hydrogen peroxide, antiseptics, thermometer, spatula, tube of vaseline or other moisturiser, antibacterial soap, rubber gloves, UVA/UVB face cream. You should also have: aspirin, pain killers, laxative, carbon ( in case of diarrhoea), cough syrup, hyperacidity.

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES
Keep the following items:
Radio on batteries, flashlight, spare battery of a different type, tape, tinfoil, rope, saw, paper plates and cups, money,  plastic plates, forks and knifes, can opener, pocket knife, small fire extinguisher ABC, tent, monkey wrench, combination pliers, compass, matches or lighter, plastic box, paper and pencil or pen, needle and thread, dropper, whistler. Among the sanitary items: toilet paper in package, hygienic towels, liquid soap and detergent, plastic rubbish bags, plastic bucket, disinfection agent, chlorine bleach.

CLOTHING AND BED CLOTHS
Each person should have one or two change of clothes prepared, a solid pair of shoes, perhaps even a working shoes, rain clothing, blankets or slipping bags, cup and gloves, worm underwear and sunglasses.

Additional measures
Children
- the milk replacement products diapers, bottles for powdered milk, medications, toys.
Adults - non prescription medical supplies, denture prosthesis, glasses or contact lenses and the substances to preserve it, hygienic products. Important family documents - the insurance policy, banking accounts numbers, addresses and phone numbers of contacts, ID carts, bonds, vaccination papers, important phone numbers, credit cards numbers, insurance papers, family papers, last will etc. All of the above should be put into a  package which will protect it from the moisture.
