MI about cooperation with Interpol

On 14 December 2011, two days after a Belarusian opponent Ales Michalewicz was arrested at the Warsaw Okęcie Airport, Minister of Interior Jacek Cichocki met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Krzysztof Stanowski and representatives of the Polish police. The talks concerned cooperation of the Polish law enforcement bodies with Interpol and necessary changes.

A new procedure was tabled on how to prevent Interpol from being used for political purposes, especially for suppression of the opposition. Close cooperation between the Attorney General's office and ministries should preclude such arrests of dissidents in the future.

Poland feels strongly about eliminating such incidents, as Ales Michalewicz's arrest in the future. Minister Jacek Cichocki has already taken steps to develop new cooperation methods with Interpol. He will also talk to Attorney General Andrzej Seremet in the nearest future. Minister Jacek Cichocki is planning to invite Director General of Interpol to talk about the new proposals.

Interpol is an international police organization supporting law enforcement bodies in their fight against crime.
